Episode 39 – Chickens! On Parliament Hill and in Your Backyard!

I didn’t have a title for this podcast when I started it, but near the end I realized there was a theme – chickens. Things that sit in a coop and cluck all day. Fortunately for us preparedness types, the feathery kind are productive! The suited kind – not so much!

Today I ask you to ask some questions about the person and the party that you are going to vote for on election day. Voting on emotion isn’t really what Canada or you deserve. Ask yourself these questions and answer them honestly. I hope they get you thinking of other questions to ask.

We head to the forum to see what the hot topic is and talk about the discussion. Seems lately chickens are on everyone’s minds. What’s the best way to raise chickens? How much space do chickens need? Coops? Paddocks? Free range? Let’s talk about it.

My neice owns a restaurant in Berwick, NS and is baking cookies on election day for first time and reluctant voters. She’s giving one to everyone as they come to the cafe after they vote. I think that is a very clever idea. There will be no apathy in Berwick!

Brilliant!!! I think Nova Scotians have had their fill with tax and waste at the provincial level. I hope that transfers to their federal politics as well.

Do you have a Canada Prepared Facebook page? I can’t seem to find it. (If not, make it as a page, not a group.. trust me!)

The right to grow food on our own in urban areas has been eroded by municipalities having no clear reasoning for banning such things. However try to get them to explain themselves or even address the issue is extremely difficult not to mention difficult to articulate without sounding extreme. I can’t say I support legislating things but this would be one I’d like to see sorted out. Paul Hughes has been fighting this out west for over a year now and it is clear the courts are not going to make it easy, so government may be our only option here. Sad our constitution and human rights permit us to live life and enjoy liberty but apparently we have to fight society to be enabled to have small quantities of livestock and provide for ourselves.

I wonder what would happen if he called the Human Rights Commission for his province and lodged a discrimination complaint against the municipality.

It could be considered discrimination based on economic status, race (farming is a cultural practice), or even religion!
