Episode 43 – The Most Serious Survival Skill – Humour

Red Skelton - One of the funniest men ever.Of course all preparedness and survival skills are serious. Survival and life are very serious businesses aren’t they? Well, no, not always. Neglect of the mind and it’s need to put things in a perspective it can handle can be deadly. Humour, however, can be life giving, if not life saving.

Many people in emergency services will tell you that humour is sometimes all that gets them through a day. Sometimes it’s a way to make friends, bridge barriers, and just plain enjoy life. We’re supposed to be going beyond surviving and on to thriving after all.

So exercise it. Learn about it. Prepare to be humourous. Include humour books and movies in your preparations. After all, if you can’t laugh at it, it’s just not serious.

I agree with your post – we have to be able to laugh at ourselves. That’s why I hope you’ll check out my new made-in-Canada prepper web comedy, THE BUNKER BROADCAST. It’s a series of how-to videos hosted by the world’s worst survivalist, “Bunker Dude”. It’s a little show my family made, and it’s held together by cardboard and coat hangers but if we get enough views and/or Facebook likes we’ll be able to shoot more. Please check it out and share it with your friends.

    Keep up the great work!

Anyone know some good sites where I could find folks who appreciate prepper humor?

TheSurvivalPodcast.com has a great community. The International Preppers Network has a huge community as well. Most preppers have a good, if not different, sense of humour. That’s mostly how we survive.

Thanks a bunch, CdnGuy! I’ll check them out.
